Fears are real
Fear is real—and sometimes it shows up in unexpected places, like the dentist’s office.
For many people, dental anxiety is more than just being nervous. The sounds, past experiences, fear of pain, loss of control, or even embarrassment can trigger significant stress and anxiety. Mental health and physical health are deeply connected, and fear can sometimes keep us from getting the care we need.
The good news? Fear does not have to have the final word.
Here are a few ways to break through your fears:
Acknowledge your fear instead of hiding it.
Talk openly with your dentist about your concerns.
Practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques before appointments.
Bring a trusted friend or family member for support.
Take small steps—progress is still progress.
Remember that courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving forward despite it.
As people of faith, we can also bring our fears to God. Scripture reminds us, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God” (Isaiah 41:10, KJV). Whether your fear is the dentist, a medical appointment, a difficult conversation, or an uncertain future, don’t let fear keep you from healing. Sometimes the breakthrough you’re seeking is waiting on the other side of the thing you’re afraid to face. Lord, give us courage to face our fears, wisdom to seek help when we need it, and faith to trust You through the process of healing.
